Greetings Youth Leaders!
I hope this message finds you well and you’re enjoying the occasional taste of warm weather we’re getting. There’s no doubt about it that the seasons are turning and we’re going to be outside a whole lot more very soon. Which brings me to what we’re talking about today, PYM Spring Day of Service!
As most of you already know PYM is hosting its semiannual community service/volunteer project in a couple weeks on March 25th. We’re going back to Shalom Farms to help them with their efforts providing fresh produce to low income communities here in Virginia. We first visited Shalom Farms in 2016 and it was a big success, over 80 people came out! Their operation is impressive and well organized and it was really fun to be able to easily pitch in and make a meaningful difference.
This event is free and open to anyone in 6th through 12th grade and a great chance to log some volunteer hours. The event will run from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and will conclude with a pizza lunch which I will provide for all of the participants and chaperones. The work is hands on and can get a little dirty but I don’t think anyone went home really messy last year. The key is having good footwear/work boots and a decent pair of work gloves. I’ll have some extra (so will Shalom Farms) but we recommend bringing your own and a water bottle.
Attached you’ll find the DOV SYDOS 3.25.17 Flyer and Registration as well as the waiver and information sheet from Shalom Farms. Please feel free to pass these on to anyone who might be interested. All participants must fill out and submit (or bring with them on the day of) the registration form and waiver. If you aren’t sending your forms in and are bringing them with you please shoot me an email letting me know how many to expect so I can pass the word on to Shalom Farms.
Let me know if you have any questions or if there’s anything I can do to help. See you all at the farm in a couple weeks!
